Burgenland startup Mindset Technologies announces system to monitor pilots' cognitive load

Mindset Technologies, a neurotech startup founded in Burgenland in 2024, announced on 7 April 2026 that it is testing an Enhanced Pilot Performance System (EPPS) that measures pilots' cognitive load in real time. The company said EPPS acts like a "pulse watch for the brain," providing immediate feedback to crews with the stated aim of strengthening resilience and reducing decision errors in the cockpit.

Founder Christian Kusmitsch described the device as a tool to make "cognitive Belastung" measurable in real time. He said the system delivers precise feedback on mental performance to pilots and that the product is being positioned for safety-critical roles beyond aviation under the working name "Brain Safety Belt." The company presented those claims in a press release distributed by the Wirtschaftsagentur Burgenland on 7 April 2026.

Mindset Technologies also reported a recent win at a Defence Conference hackathon in Klagenfurt, which the company said demonstrated its capabilities in cognitive resilience and DefenceTech. The press release did not cite independent test results, certification, or clinical data for EPPS.

The Wirtschaftsagentur Burgenland's StartUp Burgenland incubator and accelerator provided mentoring, strategic advice and networking support, the agency said. Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil was quoted praising the startup as an example of regional technology development and linking the agency's support to job creation and market scaling.

Company leaders Klaus Stinakovits and Georg Schönbauer described the agency's role as more than funding: they said it included coaching, business-model development and preparation for financing rounds. The announcement frames EPPS as an early-stage product with international market potential, but offers no timetable for commercial rollout or regulatory review.

Press contact in the release was Wirtschaftsagentur Burgenland GmbH. The company and the agency provided a photo and local contact details with the statement dated Eisenstadt, 7 April 2026.
