Overview
ReWIRE is a research group focused on neurotechnology and rehabilitation, headquartered in Aachen, NRW. The group aims to develop therapeutic solutions for patients with paralysis by translating spinal cord injury (SCI) therapies from research to clinical application. ReWIRE combines innovative neurotechnologies and rehabilitation interventions to repair and restore neurological functions after spinal cord injuries. The research program includes novel drug delivery systems and biomaterial bridges designed to reduce secondary injury and promote nerve regeneration. Additionally, neuromodulation therapies are explored to reactivate spinal circuits below an SCI, enabling individuals with chronic paralysis to regain voluntary control of walking. The group also investigates the integration of brain signals with neuromodulation to restore cortical control over spinal circuits using electrical nerve stimulation and robotic systems. Advances in robotics are enhancing neurorehabilitation efforts by fostering new connections in the nervous system.
